The defendant admitted 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A person who laced treats with tranquilliser and distributed them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two boys who were between nine and ten.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and one adult fell ill at the location in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.

Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a summer camp which he operated.

The man conducted a "candy game" with the children, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the young males "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel said objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member notified the police about his suspicions.

She stated Ruben went on to conduct the "candy game" with six children that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the following morning.

"The police had not responded by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the events.

The prosecutor said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the law enforcement a second time.

She stated the defendant then conducted the "treat game" in a room of five youngsters.
